The end of fall



It's the absolute height of fall at the moment, and in fact it's a little past-we've already had first snow a week ago. Thankfully, it's warmed up again, so I hope to get some last bit of CSA-goodness before the cold season starts in full swing. It's hard to find time to bake random stuff, but it's good that my weekly visits to the farmer's market yields lots of pictures.

In a previous post, I gave the impression of a bountiful harvest! But where does it come from? Well, from local farms <50miles from my school. These farmers drive their produce down to the local market, which unlike the wetmarkets of sunny Singapore, is very clean and dry. There's these pretty wooden structures that make you feel like it's some kind of Marche outlet rather than the American equivalent of a wetmarket. The produce is more varied- a big word here is "heirloom" varieties, which I've honestly never heard in all my years shopping for veggies in supermarkets.
